Talking Fussball – No more Ro-grr in Leverkusen after BVB beat-down on MD23

Another week, another coach told to hit the road as Roger Schmidt drove away from the Bayer 04 Leverkusen training complex for the last time…other than to return his Dienstwagen at some time within the next 30 days, we imagine. With their European dreams under threat for next season, the club’s managers felt they didn’t have much choice but to let the brainy football radical go. It sure was fun while it lasted. (Note: Tayfun Korkut had not yet been named interim coach when the podcast was recorded.)

Matt Hermann ropes Stephan Uersfeld of ESPNFC into a nice long chat about Schmidt, and that leads to talk about Kevin Großkreutz, the Champions League, MD23 and all kinds of things German football-ish. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Talking Fussball – Bayern cruise ahead of Arsenal clash…while rivals sputter on MD20

What podcast would have been so foolish as to have got excited about a real title race in the Bundesliga this season? To have been heartened by the consistency of RB Leipzig’s march through the Hinrunde, or the defeat Dortmund hung on Bayern back in November? Not this one, no sir.

Not anymore, anyway – now that the clubs in second through seventh place all lost on MD20 while Bayern continued to press ahead. Matt Hermann talks with Abel Meszaros about all that and more this week on this edition of Talking Fussball, and he also calls up Phil Costa to talk Arsenal’s trip to face the Bavarian biggies on Wednesday in the Champions League. Serious GTHBA, produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Talking Fussball Extra – Bayern’s glorious win + MD 27 previewed

Welcome to another jam-packed edition of Talking Fussball Extra. Matt Hermann is joined by Terry Duffelen and Nik Wildhagen to discuss all the latest from the world of German football.

In part 1 Sal Mitha stops by to give us the DL on the atmosphere inside the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night, the lads discuss the bigger storylines emerging from Bayern’s match against Juve, and then they dive into all the latest news from the Bundesliga.

Mid-show Nik Wildhagen is joined by Ansgar Löcke, a Hannover 96 blogger and podcaster. The two of them discuss the Reds dismal season and try to figure out why things have gone so badly for the 96’ers.

In the final part of the show Matt, Terry and Nik take a look ahead of what is to come on match day 27.

Talking Fussball Extra – Juve v Bayern, Schmidt’s ban, MD23 Preview

If you’re up for some fussball talking, you’ve come to the right place. Matt Hermann and Nik Wildhagen discuss all the choice topics in the German game this week: Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League draw in Turin, Leverkusen Coach Roger Schmidt’s ban for persistent dissent, Mainz Sporting Director Christian Heidel’s move to FC Schalke 04 and Mitchell Weiser’s rad Karl Lagerfeld costume.

All that plus a preview of Bundesliga Match Day 23. Go listen to it right now…

Talking Fussball Extra – Champs Lg, Zorniger out at VfB, MD14 Preview

Much to discuss this week in TFE-land, where Matt Hermann welcomes Bundesliga TV commentator and columnist Kevin Hatchard back to the podcast. In the Champions League, Bayern bashed their way to another 4-0 home win, Wolfsburg inched closer to advancing, and Gladbach may yet have a say-so in when their European adventure concludes. Leverkusen…pretty much crapped the bed in Belarus.

Speaking of disappointment, Alexander Zorniger was meant to be the man to start a new era at VfB Stuttgart. But it turns out he only extended the chaos down Swabia way, flaming out after just 13 league games in charge. Und das ist gut so, writes Oliver Fritsch in Die Zeit Online. A pretty damning portrayal of German football’s misplaced trust in coaching whiz kids, and one we thought well worth a chat on the pod.

Finally there’s a whole Match Day 14 to discuss. Nordderby, Bayern-Hertha, Leverkusen-Schalke, and much much more. Listen up!

Talking Fussball Extra – Champions League review and Match Day 10 preview

Matt Hermann and Nik Wildhagen are back together after Nik’s dirty weekend in Cologne. Among the talking points are Bayer’s incredible 4-4 match against AS Roma, Bayern’s slip up and the matches from the upcoming match day in the Bundesliga.

Part 1: How on earth can a team go from being 2-0 up to giving up 4 unanswered goals? How did Arsenal manage to defeat the Bavarian machine? Are Wolfsburg now favourites to win their group? And are Gladbach giving up the chase for second place in the group too early?

Part 2: Matt and Nik mull over the upcoming action in the Bundesliga. Like a good oatmeal stout, this match day has a well balanced taste and the boys simply cannot get enough of it. They highlight the matches worth watching and Matt and Nik dig into the most important storylines of the match day.

At the end of the show we announce the winners of our Das Reboot competition.

Talking Fussball Extra – UCL Wrap + 2015/16 MD8 Preview

The Bundesliga snatched defeat from the jaws of victory this week in the UEFA Champions League, with three out of four sides taking 1-0 leads on their big-name opposition before capitulating late to lose 2-1. (The exception was Bayern, but isn’t that always the way in the Bundesliga?)

At any rate, Matt Hermann and Nik Wildhagen fought like mad to keep that drop-off in quality from happening late in the pod, knowing they had an ace up their sleeve: the pod ends with our first submission in the #TFEBundesligaAnthem appeal! It’s written by Tony Williams, submitted by his dad David, and called “Ode to Fabi J: Goals for Foals.” I think you’ll agree it’s a pretty sick slow burner. Keep ’em coming!

Talking Fussball Extra – Bayern fall in Barcelona / MD 32 Preview

Matt Hermann and Nik Wildhagen mull over FC Bayern München’s late collapse at the Nou Camp and bring in beINSports’ Phil Schoen for a look at what makes FC Barcelona such a devastating opponent. The boys then look ahead at Bundesliga Match Day 32, including the relegation six-pointer which pits Hamburg against Freiburg and the Champions League qualifiers’ duel that is Gladbach v. Leverkusen.

Talking Fussball – Matchday 25 Review & UCL Preview

Talking Fussball – The Bundesliga Show is back with another weekly dose of Bundesliga goodness as James, Alex and Bernie put their heads together to mull over Bundesliga Matchday 25 and the upcoming UEFA Champions League Round of 16 2nd leg encounters.

Has Josip Drmic played his way ahead of Stefan Kießling in the Bayer 04 Leverkusen pecking order? Do VfB Stuttgart need to pull the plug on Huub Stevens to stand a chance of surviving this season? Is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the long-term solution for Borussia Dortmund in the lone striker role? Where would Borussia Mönchengladbach be without Patrick Herrmann and his goals? How good could Leroy Sane be in the future for FC Schalke 04 and how costly were Timon Wellenreuther’s mistakes against Hertha Berlin?

All this and more on the latest episode of Talking Fussball.

Talking Fussball Extra – Champions review and Bundesliga Match Day 25 preview

In the second half of the show Nik Wildhagen tells you what his thoughts are on the spat between Matthias Sammer and Thomas Eichin and all the upcoming Bundesliga action is previewed. Furthermore, Nik is also joined by halbangst.de blogger and Vollraute pod member Manuel Breuer to talk all things Borussia Mönchengladbach.
