Bundesliga MD32 – Hoffenheim climb, Hamburg claw their way up in the final phase

It’s Julian Nagelsmann and the village club who look strongest as the 2017-18 Bundesliga season draws to a close – suddenly TSG are breathing down the necks of both Dortmund and Schalke. Meanwhile at the bottom, Cologne may have received their official top flight pink slip, but HSV are threatening to make another improbable escape.

Matt finds a comfortable park bench to discuss it all with Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN. Listen in as they figure out the next move for the wantaway Max Meyer, asess Bayern’s chances of getting past Real after a misadventure in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal, and listen to a snippet of Toto played by a passing boombox. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Bundesliga MD23 – A fireside chat about Monday Night Fussball, Wolfsburg and HSV with Stephan Uersfeld

Bundesliga fans were ROCKED by a punishing new schedule this week…one which meant they had to travel to a stadium or tune in their TV sets (shudder) on a Monday!!! Luckily, those who survived the indignity have lived to tell a tale of a helluva match between Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig.

Matt catches up with Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN to talk through the weekday special, the coaching move Wolfsburg made this week, and HSV’s dim prospects of staying in the top flight. This little baby produced by Aidan Rantoul is all conducted in a most genteel style in the Kaminbar of a swank hotel, and therefore best enjoyed with a snifter of your finest by the fireside. Enjoy!

European Blues – Bayern lead the way as Bundesliga sides fail and fail and fail

Hoo boy. Six teams in Europe, six losers. Bayern drop Carlo Ancelotti like he’s a bag of bologna sandwiches left outside on a hot day. Plenty of bad news to go around, and to tell the truth we didn’t know the half of it at recording time!

Matt Hermann caught up with his Berlin-based chum Stephan Uersfeld (ESPNFC) for some Bundesliga soul-searching just about an hour before the axe fell on Carlo’s neck, and before the Europa League trio wet-farted their way to a perfect storm of awful for the Federal League. Still, the whole convo is relevant, as the league’s present doldrums come in for unpacking.

Along the way, Jack Grimse of beIN Sports joins Matt on the line from Miami for a bit of extra insight into Real Madrid’s mastery. (Pardon the sound quality on Matt’s end – we had to use the backup recording as the Plan A version failed, hard.) Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

NOTE: For you sticklers for the highest standards of timeliness, we’ve got a Carlo post-mortem from Abel Maeszaros on our Patreon page…and it’s free!

Talking Fussball – No more Ro-grr in Leverkusen after BVB beat-down on MD23

Another week, another coach told to hit the road as Roger Schmidt drove away from the Bayer 04 Leverkusen training complex for the last time…other than to return his Dienstwagen at some time within the next 30 days, we imagine. With their European dreams under threat for next season, the club’s managers felt they didn’t have much choice but to let the brainy football radical go. It sure was fun while it lasted. (Note: Tayfun Korkut had not yet been named interim coach when the podcast was recorded.)

Matt Hermann ropes Stephan Uersfeld of ESPNFC into a nice long chat about Schmidt, and that leads to talk about Kevin Großkreutz, the Champions League, MD23 and all kinds of things German football-ish. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.
