Talking Fussball Extra – FIFA World Cup 2014 – Semi-Final Review

Talking Fussball Extra – The Bundesliga Show looks back at an unbelievable night of football in Belo Horizonte. Brazil 1 – 7 Germany – a result never seen before in a World Cup Semi-Final. A game that rocked the planet! Host Matt Hermann is joined by Alex Handcock and Archie Rhind-Tutt to review this special match for Die Nationalelf.

How was it possible that Germany took down the record champions in their own back-yard? All the answers, plus more than a little tip of the hat to the World Cup’s all-time top scorer – Miroslav Klose.

Before the final, Talking Fussball will be back to preview the biggest night in Germany football since the Italia 90 Final in Rome.

Talking Fussball – 2014 FIFA World Cup Round of 16

So…Germany was not exactly souverän in their round of 16 match against Algeria, but the 2-1 win still counts, and it sets up a quarterfinal meeting with France that has already set our mouths to watering. (Next course – snails!) In that spirit, Matt Hermann, Alex Handcock, and Jonathan Harding convened – and had a dynamite discussion. They dissected Joachim Löw’s persistence with a few unusual tactical ideas, got to the bottom of Per Mertesacker’s rage at the press after the Algeria match and even invited France 24’s Dan Levy (@DanLevy1) by to fill us in on the bleu side of the equation. As you’ll hear, there were a few technical issues in post-production, mostly relating to Jon’s audio. We did what we could, but his parts are kinda jacked, we have to admit. As he told us…he was trying to go “extra sultry.”

Talking Fussball – 2014 FIFA World Cup MD3

Germany have rounded out their Group G campaign in resounding fashion – and now so too have the boys at Talking Fussball. Matt Hermann and Niklas Wildhagen got together to recount how Germany got past the USMNT, as well as to mull over what steps they might want to take to trap the desert foxes of Algeria in round two.

Joining the pod this time out are two superb expert guests: John Godfrey (@ThisIsASN), founder and Editor in Chief of AmericanSoccerNow.com who’s been following the USMNT in Brazil, joined us by phone from the US camp in Sao Paulo to tell us what the 1-0 win for Germany was like in person; later, Maher Mezahi (@MezahiMaher), who writes on Algerian and North African football for ESPNFC and the Telegraph, let us know more about the desert foxes and what kind of threat they pose to Joachim Löw’s German national team.

Talking Fussball – 2014 FIFA World Cup MD2

The Talking Fussball boys are back! Matt Hermann, Bernie Reeves and Nik Wildhagen break down Germany’s stumble against Ghana, as well as mull over the challenge ahead for Jogi’s Truppe, who face a tricky Group G finale against the USA. (Or will they? The ghosts of Gijon are swirling…)

Nik also catches up with one of our favourite guests, @TobiasEscher of Spielverlagerung.de, who, as usual, has been thinking things out tactically and fills us in on his thoughts as to what went wrong for Germany v. Ghana as well as how the Jungs should prepare for Klinsi and the USMNT.

Talking Fussball – 2014 FIFA World Cup MD1

Germany got off to a flying start at the 2014 World Cup, and so too have the Talking Fussball: The Bundesliga Show boys. Matt Hermann rounds up Nik Wildhagen and Bernie Reeves to break down die Nationalmannschaft‘s big win over Portugal, as well as discuss the team’s prospects against the beaten (though very game) Ghana in the next match day in Group G.

The gang also take on the matter of a gentleman’s honour (w/r/t how much one can exaggerate after being clumsily fouled by Pepe), as well as share their tops and flops among Bundesliga players over the tournament’s first few days.

So get listening to Talking Fussball Extra’s World Cup Update!
