Bundesliga MD18 – Aubameyang suspended, dominates nonetheless

Ballspielverein Borussia 09 Dortmund and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have had a good run; it looks very likely to come to a close after a weekend of ill temper. The striker was aggrieved over ill-chosen remarks from a prominent journalist, suspended by his club for ill discipline, and conspicuous in his absence after Dortmund could do no more than muster an ill-making 0-0 draw with Wolfsburg.

Matt and Abel dig in to all things Aubameyang on this pod this week, as well as run through the rest of the big storylines from MD18. Get it while it’s hot, and while you wait for the next edition of TF Fantasy, coming from James and Flo later this week. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Introducing…Talking Fussball Fantasy!

You might have noticed last time James Thorogood was steering the wheel on the good ship TF lollipop that he’s deep, deep into the Official Fantasy Bundesliga. He’s got so much to say about it, in fact, that he’s ready to dedicate a podcast to the subject.

JT has recruited his buddy and crack #BLFantasy player Florian Reinecke to get the ball rolling with an introduction to the game. They explain the rules, outline basic strategies, and present a few tips which will help new players and the more experienced among you too. Enjoy!

The Bundesliga Returns – transfer wrap and MD18 preview

The Federal League is back – and so is Talking Fussball!

Matt and Abel convene to chew over Schalke’s many winter moves, silent-movie moustache-twirler Nigel de Jong’s return to the Bundesliga with Mainz, and the highlights of what’s to come on MD18.

In the middle we’ve given y’all a taste of one of our Patreon bonus interviews: Jonny Walsh stops by to talk us through the 2. Bundesliga Hinrunde, and it’s dynamite. Enjoy!

The Talking Fussball Winterpause Spectacular!

Bundesliga MD15 – Bosz out, Stöger in at BVB after latest debacle, Foals and Royal Blues play to stalemate

When Dortmund lose at home to the second-worst team in the league, they might just have to take steps. Steps like removing the man in charge of the team – the man who hadn’t won since September. Peter Bosz was shown the door, which wasn’t a surprise. What was was his replacement: Peter Stöger, who had ended his tenure at Cologne with a run even more wretched than Bosz’.

Matt and Abel take on this saga in depth, as well as give an airing to the rest of the storylines to emerge from MD15. In the middle, Matt meets up with DW videojournalist Hecko Flores for a little teaser of what’s to come in Talking Fussball’s patron-only series on Germany’s World Cup 2018 group stage opponents. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Bundesliga MD14 – Stöger waves goodbye at Cologne; Bosz on borrowed time after draw in Leverkusen

Another eventful match day in the Bundesliga: The billygoats parted ways with their coach after their best performance of the season, BVB found a new way to disappoint their fans by playing on the back foot for 54 minutes against 10 men; Serge Gnabry and Hoffenheim slapped RB Leipzig silly, vaulting themselves into fifth.

Lots to talk about, and a cracking duo to take it all in – James Thorogood and Alex Chaffer. Join the Anglo-Kölners for your full wrap, which was produced by Aidan Rantoul.

MD13 – Schalke fightback stuns BVB in Revierderby for the ages, Foals deal Bayern first loss under Heynckes

It’s the Bundesliga’s big one. Dortmund v. Schalke, the Revierderby – a fixture meant to settle bragging rights in the Ruhr Valley and beyond. It always has plenty of fizz. On MD13, it was Diet Coke and Mentos.

Matt and Abel give the 4-4 thriller a thorough going over before moving on to Bayern’s surprising 2-1 loss in Mönchengladbach and the rest of the action from the weekend. Enjoy it!

Bundesliga MD12 – Schalke pass up diminished Dortmund on their way to second place

The past two months have been a whirlwind of woe for BVB – a story we’ve all heard much about. It’s now fair to say they’ve been nearly as good for S04 as they were bad for Dortmund as the Royal Blues slide past the Schwarzgelben on the Bundesliga table.

Matt and Abel talk through the divergent fortunes of those two grand Fussball clubs, as well as explore the weirdness on show in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s 4-2 win in Berlin. Bayern’s win over Augsburg (a game that’s the subject of Abel’s latest ‘Anatomy of a Goal’ on Patreon this week) gets a mention – in fact, they have at least a little to say about the whole match day. Huzzah!

Bundesliga MD11 – Bayern ride high into international break after Klassiker win, Hamburg take three points

This match day had everything – two top of the table clashes: One versus two in the one you know about (BVB-FCB), three versus four in the other one (RBL-H96). Both delivered thrills. You had a match in Wolfsburg that looked like it would be a mid-table snoozer morph into a six-alarm barnburner. You had a Hamburg team whose attack had been on life support score three and win for the first time in weeks.

James Thorogood and Alex Chaffer are strapped in this week to make sense of it. Aidan Rantoul produces. Enjoy!

UCL/UEL MD4 & Bundesliga MD11 Preview – Klassiker weekend finds Bayern ready to bully Dortmund

It’s happened. FC Bayern München have wrested top spot in the Bundesliga away from Borussia Dortmund, and the Schwarzgelben need to snap out of their funk fast on Saturday to keep from falling further behind.

Matt and Abel run through the big stories coming out of European competition this week, talk over what Werder Bremen’s next move might be in finding a new coach, and find time to give their quick-takes on each of the games coming up on MD11. We’ll be back with our regularly scheduled programming early next week to talk about the Klasskier fallout and much more. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.
