Talking Fussball – Bayern make it an even five…and it’s not enough; Hamburg and Leverkusen fading fast

It’s fair to say MD31 was owned by FC Bayern München. The Rekordmeister added another Bundesliga title to their collection, and we here at Talking Fussball felt it was time to sink our teeth into Carlo’s cadre.

The one and only Susie Schaaf (Bayern Central, Bundesliga Fanatic, Rekordmeister Podcast) beams in from Florida, and boy does she share her views on Bayern with Matt. The pair also take on the present crap-itude of Bayer Leverkusen; European dark horses (dark foals?)Borussia Mönchengladbach, who have a shockingly easy run-in; the streaking Lilies, who have played with abandon once everyone had counted them out. Abel even shows up to stab a knife into HSV, then twist it for good measure. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Talking Fussball – Top and bottom teams drop points on MD30 to maintain suspense with four games left

Another match day down and still now clarity. Bayern drew at home to Mainz and have not yet won the league; RB Leipzig drew auf Schalke and can still be overtaken into second; Hoffenheim’s draw in Cologne guarantees them at least Europa League football but we’re gonna go out on a limb and say that’s not actually the tournament they’re shooting for.

Matt is back at the helm to talk about the matchday that was with Abel, as well as to dish on the dining options in Wolfsburg and the outrageous good form of Max Kruse. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Talking Fussball – Hoffenheim and Nagelsmann edge towards history, relegation battle takes another twist

In a season rife with inconsistency, two surprise packages have taken the Bundesliga by storm with their dynamic attacking football and, while Leipzig have already clinched a top-four finish, Hoffenheim aren’t likely to be too far behind them!

With just five games left in the 2016/17 campaign there is still plenty to be decided in Germany’s top flight. On Matchday 29 all the teams vying for European qualification had a weekend to forget, while the sides battling the drop – with the exception of Ingolstadt and Hamburg – all picked up potentially pivotal points in their respective bids for survival.

But which teams have the best chances of reaching their targets at either end of the table? James, Bent and Alex muse over that question and much more on the latest episode of Talking Fussball! Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Talking Fussball – Bayern crush BVB in der Klassiker ahead of key week in Europe, Ingolstadt claw toward safety

Remember November, when Dortmund bested Bayern, kicking off what we thought might be a real title race this season? Yeah, us neither, at least after watching the Bavarians steamroll BVB on Saturday night. Germany’s two giants will have to move on from the result right away, however – both are in Champions League quarterfinals this week.

Matt and returning podcaster Nik Wildhagen offer their takes on the duopoly’s doings this week, as well as what’s been powering Bremen’s surge. They also turn their attention to the unreal octopus-esque escape act under way at FC Ingolstadt. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Talking Fussball – Hoffenheim humble Bayern, Bremen stay white-hot on MD27

It’s not every week we can talk about FC Bayern München getting outplayed in the Bundesliga. In fact it’s almost no weeks at all, but as the Rekordmeister get ready for der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund, they kinda lost the plot against Hoffenheim.

Matt and long lost podcaster Alex Chaffer get stuck into that storyline, as well as the one about Werder Bremen being born again as a good soccer team on the pod. We also give out some listener-question-inspired alternative coaching awards, culminating in a vision of Christian Streich belting out this little number in the wee small hours. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

And while we know it’s already been a double-dose week here on TF, a little reminder that there’s even more to listen to. The Total Soccer Show, for out money the most entertaining football podcast in the US, had Matt on to talk about the Bundesliga, and it was very good fun. Have a listen and then subscribe!

Talking Fussball – Goals, goals, goals and a teen-age rap video tribute on MD26

35 goals in the Bundesliga this weekend – one for just about everybody except Cologne’s Anthony Modeste. All he got was a hip-hop video tribute from a youthful Frenchman called MKN, which you should definitely watch.

Matt and Abel take on the reasons for Mainz’s recent drop into the thick of the relegation fight, as well as Schalke’s chances to sneak into Europe after all. They also wax lyrical about hat tricks from Thomas Delaney and Mario Gomez, and the latest miracles performed by Thiago Alcantara and Robert Lewandowski. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Talking Fussball – Köln and Bremen the big winners on goal-shy MD25

Two rousing home wins of 4-2 and 3-0…and a bunch of “knife-edge” 1-0, 1-1, and 0-0 encounters. We can’t account for the league’s blunt blades up front this weekend – all we can do is provide the most entertainment we can here in Podville.

This week Matt Hermann and Abel Meszaros chronicle the decline and fall of RB Leipzig, the confounding brilliance of FFF pariah Anthony Modeste, the latest stride in Bayern’s march to the title, and much much more.

A fine way to head into the international break. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Talking Fussball – Bayern help Eagles make it an even five, Hertha take advantage of BVB’s post-UCL comedown

Matchday 24 saw Bayern go 10 points up on the ‘chasing’ pack – we’re not even talking about a title race anymore. But there is plenty to discuss. Joshua Kimmich is getting antsy on the bench, Mainz are feeling the heat of the relegation race furnace on their collective kiester now that their cushion is just three points, and dramatic artist Mitchell Weiser is tarred a bit too zealously because we all like a good .gif.

Matt Hermann and the blizzard-struck Abel Meszaros dig in to all that as well as a bunch of other matchday-related storylines. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Talking Fussball – No more Ro-grr in Leverkusen after BVB beat-down on MD23

Another week, another coach told to hit the road as Roger Schmidt drove away from the Bayer 04 Leverkusen training complex for the last time…other than to return his Dienstwagen at some time within the next 30 days, we imagine. With their European dreams under threat for next season, the club’s managers felt they didn’t have much choice but to let the brainy football radical go. It sure was fun while it lasted. (Note: Tayfun Korkut had not yet been named interim coach when the podcast was recorded.)

Matt Hermann ropes Stephan Uersfeld of ESPNFC into a nice long chat about Schmidt, and that leads to talk about Kevin Großkreutz, the Champions League, MD23 and all kinds of things German football-ish. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Talking Fussball – Bayern break Berlin hearts, no witnesses on Südtribune to Dortmund’s slaughter of Wolfsburg

Fascinating results this week in the Bundesliga: Bayern needed late, late Dusel to get level with Hertha, RB Leipzig bounced back strongly from last week’s wooziness, and Dortmund put on a hell of a show…in front of a far smaller audience than usual.

Things tightened up a bit at the top, and our old pal James Thorogood is in the hosting chair to talk that and everything else from MD21 over with our other old friend Jonathan Harding. Toward the end, UEFA.com’s Bayer Leverkusen reporter Matt Howarth drops by to talk about their date with Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. Produced by Aidan Rantoul. Enjoy!
