Have you missed us? We’ve missed you, so Matt is here with a flash update after Wolfsburg wrapped up the Bundesliga season by topping Holstein Kiel in the relegation playoff. Tune in to find out when we’ll be recording a season-in-review, as well as what we have planned for the World Cup!
Bundesliga fans were ROCKED by a punishing new schedule this week…one which meant they had to travel to a stadium or tune in their TV sets (shudder) on a Monday!!! Luckily, those who survived the indignity have lived to tell a tale of a helluva match between Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig.
Matt catches up with Stephan Uersfeld of ESPN to talk through the weekday special, the coaching move Wolfsburg made this week, and HSV’s dim prospects of staying in the top flight. This little baby produced by Aidan Rantoul is all conducted in a most genteel style in the Kaminbar of a swank hotel, and therefore best enjoyed with a snifter of your finest by the fireside. Enjoy!
Wednesday saw Bayern München lose the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals against Porto after three massive blunders by the Bavarians defence. Back in Germany HSV made headlines for appointing their fourth coach of the season and BVB coach Jürgen Klopp announced that he’d leave Dortmund at the end of the season.
Archie Rhind-Tutt and Nik Wildhagen take a closer look at all the story lines emerging on that crucial day for German football. The two of them talk about Jürgen Klopp’s legacy at Dortmund and HSV chances of avoiding the drop, before they dive into the mess Bayern got themselves into in the Champions League.
In part 2 we’re taking a closer look at all the upcoming action on match day 29.
And if that wasn’t enough, we are giving away 10 copies of Ronald Reng’s new book “Match days: The hidden story of the Bundesliga”. So sit back, pour yourself a cup/glass of coffee/tea/beer/beverage of your choice, and enjoy!
Talking Fussball: The Bundesliga Show returns to the M94.5 studios as James, Alex and Bernie take a look back at all the action from Matchday 3 of the Bundesliga, which boasted 8 red cards, 5 penalties and a more controversy than you could hang your hat on!
Can last season’s top three maintain their stunning starts to the current campaign? Will Toni Kroos be the main beneficiary with Thiago Alcantara out injured? What did we make of Stefan Kießling’s national team furore? Is playing without a recognized striker the latest tactical craze to hit the Bundesliga? What constitutes a ‘derby’ in German football and where did it all go wrong for Bruno Labbadia?
Elsewhere, Bernie talks to Arjen Robben to get his thoughts on his current form for FC Bayern Munich and any changes that have been made to his role with the record titleholders!
All this and more on the Talking Fussball Episode 5!
