Bundesliga MD19 – Bayern breakaway continues as rivals falter

It’s that time of year again. The one where Bundesliga watchers go into idle lamentation mode, worried about FC Bayern München running away with the league again.

Listen in as Matt sits down with Kit Holden in his Berlin study for a highbrow discussion of Bayern’s ultra-dominance, Dortmund’s search for a new point to their spear now that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks set to leave, and much much more. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

The Talking Fussball Winterpause Spectacular!

Just in time for that slow week between the two big holidays, Talking Fussball returns!

Matt and Abel convene to talk through the state of play at the Bundesliga’s winter break, including a full wrap of transfer talk, our Team of the Hinrunde, revisiting our predictions from the preseason and more. We’ll be away for the next couple weeks – for continued service through special episodes subscribe on Patreon.

Bundesliga MD14 – Stöger waves goodbye at Cologne; Bosz on borrowed time after draw in Leverkusen

Another eventful match day in the Bundesliga: The billygoats parted ways with their coach after their best performance of the season, BVB found a new way to disappoint their fans by playing on the back foot for 54 minutes against 10 men; Serge Gnabry and Hoffenheim slapped RB Leipzig silly, vaulting themselves into fifth.

Lots to talk about, and a cracking duo to take it all in – James Thorogood and Alex Chaffer. Join the Anglo-Kölners for your full wrap, which was produced by Aidan Rantoul.

MD13 – Schalke fightback stuns BVB in Revierderby for the ages, Foals deal Bayern first loss under Heynckes

It’s the Bundesliga’s big one. Dortmund v. Schalke, the Revierderby – a fixture meant to settle bragging rights in the Ruhr Valley and beyond. It always has plenty of fizz. On MD13, it was Diet Coke and Mentos.

Matt and Abel give the 4-4 thriller a thorough going over before moving on to Bayern’s surprising 2-1 loss in Mönchengladbach and the rest of the action from the weekend. Enjoy it!

UCL/UEL MD4 & Bundesliga MD11 Preview – Klassiker weekend finds Bayern ready to bully Dortmund

It’s happened. FC Bayern München have wrested top spot in the Bundesliga away from Borussia Dortmund, and the Schwarzgelben need to snap out of their funk fast on Saturday to keep from falling further behind.

Matt and Abel run through the big stories coming out of European competition this week, talk over what Werder Bremen’s next move might be in finding a new coach, and find time to give their quick-takes on each of the games coming up on MD11. We’ll be back with our regularly scheduled programming early next week to talk about the Klasskier fallout and much more. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Bundesliga MD8 – RB Leipzig win instant classic in Dortmund, Hertha #takeaknee

Who can forget where they were when Leipzig went to the Westfalenstadion and knocked off BVB? It’s only been a few days, but it already feels like this attacking display will live on for some time yet in the discerning Bundesliga fan’s memory.

Matt and Abel do their best to do the game justice on this week’s podcast, as well as dig deeper into the justice theme with Hertha BSC. The capital club positioned themselves as the Bundesliga’s leading proponents of tolerance, solidarity, equality, respect, and several other weighty adjectives by kneeling before their game on Saturday.

The boys also dig into Jupp Heynckes’ return to Bayern, and speak with Paul Dykes of the Celtic State of Mind podcast about the Rekordmeister’s opponents in the Champions League this week, Celtic FC. (An extended version of this chat is available to subscribers on Patreon.) Produced by Aidan Rantoul. Enjoy!

World Cup 2018 Qualifiers – Bundesliga stars in action at the business end

Usually when they take away our Bundesliga for the week, we kick and scream – this week, it wasn’t so bad. International action served up plenty of drama as qualifying for World Cup 2018 came to a close. Matt and Abel talk over many of the best storylines, including Germany’s record-setting run to Russia, Turkey’s blackout at home to Iceland, and the exploits of a certain BVB wonder boy in Orlando.

The episode is rounded out with some Jupp-Heynckes-to-Bayern talk as well as discussion of a couple of topics put forward by our Patreon subscribers – how Bundesliga sides’ foreign tours are viewed back home, and who would join Bayern and Dortmund in a European Super League (should one ever get off the ground). Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Bundesliga MD7 – BVB riding high into international break as Bayern make a change

It’s time for another Länderspielpause everybody – a good chance to take stock of a league that looks increasingly competitive. Dortmund are still scything through the league, but Bayern, Hoffenheim and Leipzig are keeping them honest.

Funny that, in that Bayern are IN CRISIS, as we all know. At the time James Thorogood and Alex Chaffer recorded, Jupp Heynckes was not yet in the frame to take over for the remainer of the season…but he surely seems to be now. The boys mull over their troubles, as well as the much more severe difficulties of the Cologne, Hamburg and others. Enjoy! Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Bundesliga MD3 – Bayern IN CRISIS after falling to the Hoff, Cologne smelling sour

Where else could we start this week? Bayern LOSE a game and it’s only MD3! Hoffenheim were a bit too crafty for the defending champs on Saturday night, Robert Lewandowski spoke candidly to Spiegel about his concerns for the club’s future, and all hell breaks loose.

Matt and Abel are all over that hell from minute one, moving on to Bibiana Steinhaus’ historic Sunday in Berlin, Cologne’s continued funk, and Domenico Tedesco’s thus-far-winning gamble on youth auf Schalke. Rounded out by a glance at the European engagements to come. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Bundesliga MD2 – Hamburg and Hanover Spark Northern Renaissance

Sometimes it takes a season for predictions to come back and bite you; other times it’s just a matter of weeks. The supposedly lowly Hamburger SV and Hannover 96 are both off to a flying start, making Talking Fussball scratch its collective head.

This week Matt is joined by Abel and Terry for a Bundesliga roundtable, covering the doings on MD2 as well as transfer news, like BVB’s turning Ousmane Dembele into Andriy Yarmolenko and at least 75 million euros. We’ve also got European Football Expert Andy Brassell’s bulletproof analysis of the German teams’ draws in the Europa League. (If you want to hear his thoughts on the Champions League, and trust us, you do – sign up as a subscriber on Patreon.) Produced by Aidan Rantoul. Enjoy!
