TF Fantasy’s 2018-19 Bundesliga preview/crash course on the new rules

Talking Fussball Fantasy’s first episode of the season is here, and it’s fantastic!

JT and Flo are back to run beginners through the basics of how the Official Fantasy Bundesliga is played, and school advanced listeners on how all the rule tweaks will affect your squad and team selection this season.

Even if you hadn’t been starved of TF since Germany ate it against Korea, this would be unmissable…so don’t miss it!

Talking Fussball ENCORE – South Korea NT talk with Taeguk Warriors’ Tim Lee and Roy Ghimm

After conquering Sweden in dramatic fashion, Germany head into the final game in the group against South Korea with a chance to win the group. The Koreans…have not had as good a World Cup. For a bit more on what to expect from the team, we have Tim Lee and Roy Ghimm from Taeguk Warriors, the excellent website/twitter feed that covers the KNT like a blanket. (This was originally a Patreon bonus which appeared in the full podcast in truncated form, and was recorded in January so squad information has changed, but it remains a good primer.

Listen up and find out about South Korea’s bumpy qualifying campaign, the managerial change that got them through and whether the team’s top-level talent begins and ends with Son Heung-Min.

Talking Fussball – Sweden National Team preview with Axel Falk

So have you had a bit of time to digest Germany’s opening loss to Mexico? You’d better get there, because die Mannschaft‘s next challenge is coming around the corner.

To prepare for that, we present an extended chat with Axel Falk on Sweden’s national team. He’s the Germany correspondent for SvenskaFans, a lifelong supporter of the Blågult, and a great conversation partner for understanding the culture that surrounds this team in transition that will try like hell to keep their advantage over Germany on Saturday. Produced by Aidan Rantoul. Enjoy!

Talking Fussball ENCORE – Mexico NT chat with DW Sports’ Hecko Flores

World Cup 2018 is under way! We’ve already seen one instant classic in Portugal-Spain as well as late-game drama in Friday’s other two matches. We can only hope Germany vs Mexico provides us with plenty more thrills.

To whet the appetite, we thought we’d post the full version of Matt’s chat with Hecko Flores his colleague at DW Sports. (This was originally a Patreon bonus which had appeared in the full podcast in truncated form.) The conversation was recorded a good while back (a few weeks after the draw) so some squad information has changed, but it remains a good primer on what makes El Tri tick, as well as how Mexico supporters relate to their team. Enjoy!

Talking Fussball – Germany NT World Cup preview

It’s World Cup time! It’s time to Talk Fussball! Germany are gearing up for their Group F opener on Sunday and Matt catches up with Kit Holden in Berlin to run the squad over with a fine-toothed comb.

The boys also devote quite a bit of time to exploring the “Erdogan affair”, the controversy that’s bogging down Mesut Özil and Ilkay Gündogan…and threatens to engulf the team’s entire campaign in Russia. It’s a real departure from the usual sports chat – we hope you enjoy it!

Bundesliga 2017-18 Season Review – Favre signs at BVB, Leipzig’s Rangnick considers hiring himself

Time to look back at the Bundesliga year that was in our 2017-18 Saisonrückblick! Matt and Abel fire up the pod machine to figure out who deserves to be young player of the year, minister of defense, most disappointing player, coach of the year and much more.

Before they dig in to the past, they bring you up to date on the big news of the week that was: Swiss artiste Lucien Favre’s return to the Federal League, Lukas Hradecky’s move to Bayer Leverkusen, and Lewis Holtby and HSV renewing their vows. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Quick update – Wolfsburg beat the drop after Eintracht top Bayern in Pokal final

Have you missed us? We’ve missed you, so Matt is here with a flash update after Wolfsburg wrapped up the Bundesliga season by topping Holstein Kiel in the relegation playoff. Tune in to find out when we’ll be recording a season-in-review, as well as what we have planned for the World Cup!

Bundesliga MD34 – Hamburg have left the building, BVB hang on to UCL football by a thread after Hoffenheim loss

It looks like we might have made it – yes, it looks like we’ve made it to the end. For most of us here at Talking Fussball central that doesn’t mean much – we’ll be back soon enough with more content. For Hamburger Sportverein, it really is the end. The great clock-watch is over.

Matt’s away, so Abel is joined by Ronan Murphy of Goal.com for a throrough-going run through the last match day of the season, including a look at Dortmund, Hoffeheim and Leverkusen’s three-way tug-of-war over the Champions League, Stuttgart’s stonking of the champs in Munich, and much much more. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

TF Fantasy MD34 tips – Who to play on the final day

Just one last match day for the 2017-18 Bundesliga season, meaning whatever points you pick up this week will be the last you collect – time to make them count. By the same token, quite a few teams have European qualification or top flight survival on the line and will be giving every last drop of effort on Match Day 34.

JT and Flo fight back the wistful tears that start to well up around this time each year to give you all the best insight on who to put in (and who to leave out of) your line-up. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.

Bundesliga MD33 – Schalke seal ‘Vice-Champions’ status, Relegation fight goes down to wire

Mainz did themselves a solid on Match Day 33, busting loose for a 2-1 win at the Westfalenstadion over BVB. That meant not only that the zero-fivers are safe but also that Schalke are guaranteed to finish above Dortmund for the first time in nine years.

Matt and Abel talk all that over, as well as the fates of the remaining relegation candidates (HSV, Wolfsburg, Freiburg) and the unholy muddle that is the European qualification situation. Produced by Aidan Rantoul.
